How to choose a dentist in your PPO network

Choosing the right dentist can sometimes seem overwhelming, especially if there are a lot in your area. If you start your search with your dental PPO network, you know that your network has properly vetted all in-network dentists and negotiated discounted rates for procedures covered by your plan, which means lower out-of-pocket costs for you.

Below are some points to consider when searching for a dentist in your PPO network:

When and where do you prefer to schedule appointments?

Consider when and where you prefer to see the dentist. Whether you want to schedule appointments during your lunch hour, after work, or on the weekends, search by location to narrow down the list of in-network dentists from which you can choose.

Is this dentist for your entire family?

If it’s more convenient for your entire family to visit the same dentist office, make sure you search for an in-network dentist who specializes in both pediatric and adult dental care. If you need to find different dentists for your family members, check with them to see what is most convenient.

Do you need any dental specialties?

Not all dentists are experts in every field of dentistry. If you or a family member, covered by your plan, have special dental needs, make sure that the provider you choose has the expertise to best treat your current dental health.

Have you read reviews or asked around about providers?

Even though dentists listed in your network might have already been screened by the network, you might want a second opinion. Read ratings and reviews about providers you are considering, or reach out to family and friends for recommendations. If you’re looking for a dentist close to work, check with your co-workers, because chances are they may have the same dental plan and can recommend a good dentist.

Make choosing a dentist a little easier by starting with the dentists in your PPO network.
